Greenville-Based Business Has Thrived For Nearly Seventy Years Farmers Co-op in Greenville was launched in 1956 by a group of farmers from Washington, Sharkey and Bolivar counties to pool their resources with the goal of being able to provide farmers with a comprehensive and affordable source for all their agricultural supply needs. “Farmers including Monty Payne, Leo Williams, Johnny Howarth and Lawrence Carter canvassed the Delta to sell stocks to farmers to establish Farmers Inc.,” says Farmers Co-op General Manager Floyd Trammell. “At one time, Farmers Inc. had 350 stockholders, all farmers.
